Cube

This article is about my experience with the world's most famous cube; The Rubik's Cube.

During my maternity leave I was looking for an activity which I could perform while sitting next to my son. I had a Rubik's cube back in the 80s and was not able to solve more than one face. My husband had brought a cube as a giveaway from his former company a few years ago. When I found it among the dusted articles at home, I thought this could be perfectly my new activity.

Dan Brown's method

I began searching for tutorials about how to solve the Rubik's cube in YouTube. I was amazed that there were thousands of videos. The very first result was viewed over 18 million times! So I watched it and within 2 hours I wrote down all the algorithms and I solved the cube for the first time in my life. What a relief :-) The tutorial consists of 2 parts:

After you have experienced your first success, you might want to speed up:

Fridrich method

Once you have learned the algorithms and have solved the cube several times and don't get excited or amazed any more, then you are ready for the Fridrich's method. This is the most used method by the speed cubers; people who can solve the cube within seconds.

F2L

The video I'm showing aims to solve the F2L (first 2 layers) intentionaly. So no algoritm memorization would be required.

OLL and PLL

You need some algorithms for the 3rd (last) layer; orientation last layer (oll) and permutation last layer (pll).
